You open Settings → General → iPhone Storage and Discord is the bar that will not move. Photos looks fine. Messages looks fine. Discord’s Documents & Data is still several gigabytes of cached images, GIFs, stickers, and voice notes from servers you barely open anymore.
Check the two numbers under Discord, clear caches from Discord’s own Settings (usually after turning on Developer Mode), and only then decide whether Offload or Delete App is worth it. Servers and DMs stay in the cloud. That is the whole job.
Discord’s iPhone UI changes often. Treat the path below as version-dependent: look for Advanced, Developer Mode, and bottom-of-Settings labels like Cache Actions, Clear Caches, or Dev Only Clear Caches. Clearing cache does not delete servers, DMs, friends, or your account — only local media and temporary files on the phone.
Where Discord storage actually lives on iPhone
Most of the weight is not in Photos. It sits in Discord’s sandbox under Documents & Data — the same bucket Telegram cache, WhatsApp media, and Netflix downloads use.
- App Size — the Discord binary from the App Store. Usually modest next to a long-running cache.
- Documents & Data — cached images, videos, GIFs, stickers, voice messages, and other local copies. Often the large number.
- Photos — only if you tapped Save / Share into Camera Roll. Clearing Discord cache will not delete those Photos copies, and deleting Photos will not shrink Discord’s sandbox.

Quick check: Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Discord. If Documents & Data is the big line, clear caches inside Discord first. Offloading the app will not free that number.
How to clear Discord cache on iPhone (stock Discord)
Do this inside Discord first. Button names shift by Discord build and iOS version — follow the intent, not a pixel-perfect menu tree.
- Open Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Discord. Note App Size vs Documents & Data.
- Open the Discord app.
- Tap your profile / You tab (usually bottom right).
- Tap the Settings gear.
- Open Advanced and turn on Developer Mode.
- Go back to the main Settings list and scroll to the bottom.
- Look for Cache Actions, Clear Caches, or Dev Only Clear Caches (labels vary). Tap to clear.
- Confirm. Wait a minute, then recheck Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Discord if Documents & Data still looks stale.
What Clear Caches removes: local image/video/GIF/sticker cache and temporary files on the phone. It does not remove your account, servers you joined, DM history, or Nitro status. Opening an old media message may re-download it.
If Clear Caches is missing or Documents & Data stays huge
Some Discord builds hide cache controls, move them, or leave Documents & Data stubborn after a clear. Then you choose between Offload and Delete.
Offload App
Removes App Size only. Documents & Data stays. Poor choice when cache is the problem. See offload vs delete.
Delete App
Wipes the binary and the sandbox. Sign back in after reinstall. Account, servers, and DMs remain in Discord’s cloud — you re-download media you still want offline.
- Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Discord.
- Choose Offload App only if you need a small App Size win and accept that Documents & Data will not shrink.
- Choose Delete App when Documents & Data is the large number and in-app Clear Caches is missing or ineffective.
- Reinstall Discord from the App Store and sign in. Your cloud account is intact.
Photos copies: only if you saved Discord media to Camera Roll
Discord does not auto-mirror every chat image into Photos the way some messengers can. If you never tapped Save / Share to Photos, skip this section.
- In Apple Photos, find Discord-saved shots or videos you do not need.
- Delete them.
- Empty Recently Deleted or the Photos bar will barely move for up to 30 days.
Clear Discord caches
Frees Documents & Data. Servers and DMs stay. Best first move when iPhone Storage shows Discord huge.
Delete Photos copies
Frees Camera Roll saves only. Does not shrink Discord’s sandbox. Empty Recently Deleted after.
What will not free Discord storage
- Clearing Safari alone — does not touch Discord’s sandbox. Clear cache on iPhone is still useful elsewhere.
- Emptying Photos Recently Deleted alone — different app. Use it for Camera Roll copies; clear Discord caches (or Delete App) for Documents & Data.
- Third-party “clear cache” apps that claim to wipe Discord’s sandbox — iOS does not allow that. They cannot empty another app’s Documents & Data.
- Offloading Discord when Documents & Data is the large number.
If the phone is still full after messaging and social apps, next stops are usually Photos junk and large Camera videos: find large videos, delete screenshots, and what’s taking up space.
